Fairy-Filled Games
Here are a few simple suggestions that we have used at A Faery Hunt:
A Nature Scavenger Hunt
Embark on an exhilarating adventure with the children as you lead them on a magical treasure hunt right in the enchanting confines of your backyard. Uncover hidden gems waiting to be discovered, from mystical rocks to ethereal feathers and whimsical sticks. Dive into the excitement with our nature scavenger hunt, accessible by clicking here, and let the exploration begin! An Outdoor Scavenger Hunt.
Faery, Faery, Gnome (Duck, Duck, Goose)
Gather the children in a circle and designate one child as the “faery” or “gnome.” This child walks around the outside of the circle, gently tapping each seated child on the head, saying “faery” or “gnome” as they do so. When the “faery” or “gnome” chooses, they tap a child on the head and say “gnome home!” The chosen child then jumps up and tries to tag the “faery” or “gnome” before they can sit in the tagged child’s spot. If successful, the “faery” or “gnome” continues tapping, but if tagged, they become the new “faery” or “gnome.”
Faery Says or Troll/Gnome Says
Similar to Simon Says, choose one child to be the leader, either the “faery,” “troll,” or “gnome.” The leader gives commands such as “Faery says hop on one foot” or “Troll says touch your nose.” The other children must only follow commands that begin with “Faery says” or “Troll says.” If the leader gives a command without saying “Faery says” or “Troll says,” and a child follows it, they are out. The last child remaining becomes the new leader.
Faery Freeze Dance
Play some whimsical music and let the children dance around freely. When the music stops suddenly, the children must freeze in place like statues. The adult leading the game can observe and award small prizes for the most creative or imaginative frozen poses. Resume the music and continue the game, allowing the children to dance and freeze to their hearts’ content.
Build a Story
Begin by starting a magical story or fairy tale. It could be something like “Once upon a time, in a faraway forest, there lived a curious faery named Luna.” After introducing the story, let each child take turns adding a sentence or two to continue the tale. Encourage creativity and imagination as the story unfolds, weaving together the contributions of each child into a collaborative narrative. Enjoy the journey as the story takes unexpected twists and turns, guided by the vivid imaginations of the young storytellers.
Make a Fairy Garden
Take a trip to the dollar store, and you will find everything you need to create a Fairy Garden. Sometimes they do have small faery characters for sale. Use a small planter, dirt, a plant, colored stones and faux plants and build a magical garden for them to take home with them to complete their magical experience.
